It's summer and the perfect time to Volunteer. We have been blessed with growing funds for books and children to read them. What we don't have is enough volunteers to spend an hour a week with a group of kids and read with them. Please spread the word and consider volunteering to help kids learn to read, and learn to love reading!
Some of the BTP staff spent the weekend at the Mile Hi Con spreading the word about our efforts, gaining support, and talking with teachers, librarians, parents, and kids! They were wonderfully enthusiastic about the cause...who wouldn't be, right? With all our supporters' efforts, we raised money that will buy a lot of books for a lot of kids and we are so grateful to the Mile Hi Con for giving us this opportunity and believing in us. 2013 is going to be a great year for kids in Denver! Thanks again to everyone willing to express a passion for our cause and all of our generous donors.
We are pleased to announce that we will be working with new kids at South Middle School starting early September! We have around 15 kids who are eager to start reading and we just can't wait to see what happens...This is a great opportunity to work with an after school program in Aurora Public Schools - helping kids get into books they actually dig. It's gonna be a great year!
We are getting ready to start a new season of reading with the kids and very excited about what's coming next. The kids are hooked and some of them are outreading us! We're also looking forward to kickstarting this fall with our art and jazz fundraiser at Dazzle on August 18th. Thanks to everyone supporting us. It's going to be a great year! (school year, that is)
Who knew? Kids actually excited about reading books? They even look forward to it? It's like books suddenly got cool and we're okay with that. We are working with kids at all different reading levels and age groups, but the one thing they all seem to have in common - they're getting hooked on the stories and the camaraderie they share in their reading groups. They're coming alive as they become involved in stories that descibe a world outside their own - it's a beautiful thing and we can't wait to watch it grow!
For those of you who have inquired about obtaining a copy of our posters, the time has come! You get a little sneak peak of the stuff that's available to purchase online before it shows up all over...cuz you're cool. There's more than just posters out there, and know that every purchase made goes to buying books for kids. We will be updating our followers about the progress we're making in that department, so stay tuned and thanks for the support!
To everyone who has contacted us over the last couple of days, you may have noticed that we've received quite a bit of attention! As you can imagine, we have many, many...many emails, to which we will certainly reply. We can't thank you enough for your interest, support, and comments. Please be patient with us as we are a tiny little organization with a handful of working adult volunteers. We will respond to emails as quickly as possible! Thanks for being awesome and we look forward to correspondence with you!
We are stunned with the traffic we are getting through Facebook now since our fundraiser Spelling Bee on Saturday! Be sure to check it out to keep supporting the cause of reviving literature and reading for Denver's youth. We owe the folks at the Denver Bee a great deal of thanks. You guys are amazing - thank you for believing in us!
Exciting developments - we're starting to hear from all kinds of kids and we get to work with another Boys & Girls club! Things are moving, get on board...We need donations and volunteers to keep this great thing going!
